Get off to a good start
If you would like to ensure you have the highest possibility of becoming a parent, schedule an appointment at AdBaby IVF Centre specialist.
During your initial appointment, your specialist will discuss with you the medical records of both yourself and your partner (if present) and may conduct some tests. They will in turn use this information to guide you on some of the techniques that may enable you to have your best shot of getting pregnant.
The specialist is likely to ask questions such as; when are you ovulating, how long have you been trying to conceive, your lifestyle and whether you have undertaken any fertility treatment. This appointment is for the mother and the father if there is one:
Investigations
It is crucial to inform your specialist prior to the initial session if your general practitioner has ordered any investigations so that they can be accessed. It is not necessary to repeat the majority of these. While some tests determine the precise cause of your infertility issue, others are conducted to make sure you are prepared for conception.
Female fertility tests
- Specific blood tests involve follicular phase (early cycle) sex hormones (estrogen, luteinizing hormone (LH) , follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).
- But there is another blood test that estimates ovarian reserve – the Anti Mullerian hormone (AMH), which is usually accompanied by an antral follicle count (AFC) using an ultrasound. AMH is an index of ovarian function at a particular month or the number of eggs in the women’s ovary (ovarian bank).
- A pelvic ultrasound scan is performed to assess the structures of the pelvis & exclude cystic ovaries. You are going to have a hysterosalpingogram. It's an X ray dye study that will look out for abnormalities within the uterus and rule out any obstruction of the fallopian tubes. Another way it can also be achieved by a saline sonohysterogram, it actually involves an ultrasound scan.
Male fertility tests
- A “sperm count” is also called a seminal fluid, semen analysis. It includes sperm density, motility and morphology, which is shape. This test is usually commonly known as a semen analysis.
- A Semen count which is abnormal may necessitate other blood tests, for instance FSH, LH and testosterone among others.
- Based on your history and the findings of the first screening, your treating doctor may recommend you to undergo a sperm DNA fragmentation test or a testicular biopsy.
Benefit
Infertility tests also, permits to treat at the same time. For instance, tubal blockage that is precipitated during hysterosalpingogram/ hysteroscopy/ laparoscopy. Once the actual problem causing infertility can be identified, the right approach in the treatment can as well be initiated.
When to seek advice
At AdBaby IVF Centre, we recommend you seek medical advice from your specialist if you have not conceived after 12 months of trying, or after six months of trying if you are over the age of 35. You may also want to get earlier fertility counsel in other situations. These include having a history of endometriosis, polycystic ovaries, irregular or nonexistent menstruation, early menopause, being a cancer patient or having had cancer in the past, or having a male partner who has had a vasectomy.
